Dr Assem is an expert in academic leadership, institutional transformation and professional development.  He has published more than 80 scientific articles and spoken at over 100 international and regional industry events. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK (SFHEA), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB), a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (FAIQS), an Associate Member and a recognized facilitator of the Middle East Facility Management Association (MEFMA). Selected by The FM Middle East magazine as one of the 50 most influential professionals in the Facilities Management Industry in the Middle East in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Won the MBM Research and Teaching Award at the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors’ 2013 Infinite Value Awards, Sydney, Australia.

Assem is the CEO of Project Perfect Professional Practices Fz-LLC, UAE. He has held leadership roles in the GCC for over 15 years –  as CEO of Khawarizmi Holding Company (KHC) and President of Khawarizmi International College, Abu Dhabi, UAE.  Vice President for Academic Affairs and Development at Applied Science University in Bahrain.  He established the School of the Built Environment in 2006 at Heriot-Watt University in Dubai, became its Academic Head and Director of Research, establishing  its reputation in the MENA region up until 2015. Before moving to the Gulf, Assem worked for 13 years at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, UK as an academic, and then representing the University internationally as Program Director for the Shell Intensive Training Program in Nigeria, then as Senior Project Director for the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) on the Petroleum Training Institute Upgrade project in Nigeria.

Assem has provided leadership coaching and training in Facilities and Asset Management for a wide range of executives and industry professionals.
